Heifer International
Heifer International is a nonprofit,
humanitarian orginization dedicated to ending world hunger and saving the earth. Heifer provides livestock, trees, training
and other resources to help poor families around the globe become more self-reliant.
Animals from Heifer International provide
milk, eggs, plowing power and other benefits. For families across the planet these benefits can mean improved nutrition, education
for children , health care, improved housing and literally a new way of life. Heifer currently provides 25 different kinds
of animals--bees to water buffalo--and many different kinds of trees.
What makes Heifer unique is the practice
known as "passing on the gift". Families receiving animals agree to pass on the first offspring--or an appropriate equivalent
in resources or training-- to another family in need, starting a chain of giving that often touches thousands of lives.
The IB program at Curie has fundraised and donated over $1000 every year for the last
4 years to Heifer International!
Over the last four years, Curie IB students have raised enough funds to purchase four water
buffalos, 4 heifers, and 8 goats for communities in need around the world.
